Where Did I Get The Wood Block?

A simple question opens the door to a LONG multi-layered history and the wheres and whys of my idea for "abalacabal hanga" became instantly clear to me. Threads of life and death etched in heartfelt patterns carried with me every day are symbolized by a wood block sitting on my shelf. I thought, "I know, I'll use this block to make multiple images to abalcabal to Jennifer, my new ABAD friend, since this block holds memories of death, life, and love which complement the memories I am now creating by participation in the ongoing ABAD exploration.

For people unfamiliar with ABAD, you may visit http://abookaboutdeatharchive.blogspot.com/

to get a sense of the project which has inspired Jennifer Zoellner's abalcabal.
